# Check whether an email can sign up

**POST /auth/check-email-availability**

Says whether an email is free to sign up with. `isAvailable` is false when it belongs to a user (`type: 'user'`) or to a custodian on an extraction code (`type: 'custodian'`); `type` is null when it is available. No auth; limited to 10 requests per minute.
